• Prepare for the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy
• Relieve physical discomforts of pregnancy
• Focus on posture, alignment and back care
• Relax and be present
• Improve circulation and energy levels
• Maintain your strength, flexibility and balance
• Learn some safe exercises which you can continue at home
• Learn postures, breathing and affirmations you can use during labour
• Learn breathing, meditation and relaxation for during and after the pregnancy

Postnatal Yoga & Infant Massage Courses

Postnatal Yoga focuses on safely strengthening your core, stretching out your body, relaxing and renewing energy levels during the postnatal recovery period (for roughly the first 9 months after giving birth). The classes are flexible so that you can bring your baby with you and attend to their needs at any time.

6 week course, 1 hour per session, small groups, run in Aldinga Beach.
$65 ($60 with proof of concession) upfront for the course, or pay $13 each session.
The Infant Massage Course teaches ways to use massage and touch and other forms of communication to bond with your baby. Benefits for your baby may include improved sleep and less crying. This program is open for any carers including fathers, grandparents, etc.

6 week course, 1 hour per session, small groups, run in Aldinga Beach.
$80 ($70 with proof of concession) upfront for the course.

Do the postnatal yoga and the infant massage courses together in a flexible 2-hour session and pay $130 upfront ($115 with proof of concession) for the 6 week combined courses. This is a great way to do some restorative exercises for yourself, spend some quality time connecting with your baby and meet other local parents. Sessions are baby-centred so you can feed, change or comfort your baby at any time and they can sleep whenever they need to.

$1 from each person at each session goes towards The Orangutan Project.

Hatha Yoga for all ages by donation or exchange

The vision of The Grass Roots Yoga Movement is to make yoga available to anyone. It was inspired by the tai chi which you can see practised in parks all over China. These sessions are open to people of all ages and abilities. Join the Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/232231170265723/ for updates on sessions. Or contact theyogaexchange@yahoo.com or 0431 032 797 to be added to the email list.
There is no set fee for these sessions. Donate what you feel the session is worth, or what you can afford. Or alternatively, you may like to offer an exchange or gift of your own service, creation or produce from your garden. See Making an Exchange below.

Yoga for Kids

Orangutan Yoga for Kids incorporates yoga postures, breath, relaxation, cooperative games, mindfulness activities, stories, making and more in fun and creative sessions. I am expecting to be running sessions at local schools as part of the Active After School Communities Program. Other kids’ yoga sessions will be offered depending on interest. Kids are also welcome to come along and join in the general Grass Roots yoga sessions (see info above).

Beach Aqua Yoga

Yoga in the water can be particularly beneficial for people with physical limitations due to injuries, pregnancy or health issues, but it can also be fun for anyone to try. The water can help with balance, may loosen you up so that you are able to do some postures which are more difficult on land, minimises stress on joints and keeps you cool. And down south we have the most beautiful beaches for us to get out and take advantage of our natural environment. Sessions will be offered during the warmer months depending on interest and the weather conditions. Contact theyogaexchange@yahoo.com or 0431 032 797 to register your interest or join the Grass Roots Yoga Movement Aldinga Beach Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/232231170265723/ for updates on future sessions.

Yoga for Anxiety or Depression

Yoga has physical, mental and emotional benefits, and I can offer yoga sessions privately or in small groups specifically designed for people who experience anxiety or depression. Contact theyogaexchange@yahoo.com or 0431 032 797 to register your interest or for more information. $1 from each person at each session goes towards The Orangutan Project.

Private or Community Group Sessions

I can offer yoga sessions or infant massage training courses designed to your requirements and can provide mats for up to 10-12 people. Contact theyogaexchange@yahoo.com or 0431 032 797 for more information.

Gift Vouchers

If you are looking for a gift for a birthday, baby shower or birth of a baby, how about the gift of a voucher for a prenatal yoga, postnatal yoga or infant massage course?

Making an Exchange

In the spirit of gifting communities, alternative economies or of simply sharing, exchanging and being part of the local community, The Yoga Exchange welcomes exchanges or gifts of your skills, services, resources or produce instead of money. Everyone has different abilities to pay and I would like yoga to be accessible for anyone. If you would prefer to offer an equivalent exchange, please contact theyogaexchange@yahoo.com or 0431 032 797. For example, you may be able to offer garden produce, help with gardening, cleaning, promoting the yoga courses, hairdressing, complimentary therapies and so on. Or if you have a skill or something you’d like to exchange with another person in The Yoga Exchange, feel free to post it on this Facebook page.

The Orangutan Project

The Yoga Exchange supports The Orangutan Project with $1 for each fee-paying class that you attend (includes the prenatal/postnatal/infant massage courses). Donations support habitat protection, rehabilitation, orphan care centres and raising awareness of orang-utan survival. Check out their website for more info: www.orangutan.org.au.

I don’t actually remember my first experience of yoga which was when my mum practised yoga while pregnant with me. I do remember copying some poses from a kid’s yoga book I had as a child, and I still have that book now. I attended my first adult yoga course over 15 years ago, but it wasn’t the most positive experience. Fortunately I didn’t let that experience put me off and I continued to do yoga on and off over the years whenever I had the opportunity. About five years ago I was discovering more and more that the benefits of yoga went way beyond the physical, bringing me peace of mind and leading me to explore the mental, emotional and spiritual side of yoga, meditation and mindfulness. It was at this point that I realised that I needed yoga to become a part of my life rather than just a class I attended once a week. Yoga also encourages and inspires me to lead a simple, mindful and healthy life, to be kind and to seek contentment from within. I love sharing yoga and its principles with my kids, and I would love to make yoga accessible for anyone within the community.
